Giga Shanghai has become an important part of Tesla's global operations today.

The facility not only caters to the domestic Chinese market but also serves as the company's main vehicle export hub.

With this in mind, it is appropriate for Tesla to ensure that Giga Shanghai is operating as optimally as possible.

While exploring the assembly lines of Giga Shanghai, Xinhua News Agency inquired about how long it currently takes to produce the Model Y from start to finish.

An employee of Giga Shanghai said that from the first station to the last station, it takes about two and a half hours to finish the Tesla Model Y.

“I think from the first station to the last, it takes about two and a half hours to finish all the stations,” said the employee of Gigafactory Shanghai.

As the current pace of Gigafactory Shanghai is already quite impressive, the facility is still under development.

  • As such, it wouldn't be surprising if Giga Shanghai's compilation speed would improve in the near future.

  • Previous reports indicated that Tesla China will unleash the potential of Giga Shanghai in the first quarter.

  • According to an internal memo seen by Reuters, Tesla China is said to be looking to ramp up production to approximately 20,000 vehicles per week for February and March.

  • This strategy is expected to result in the facility reaching its production level in September when it produced 82,088 Model 3 and Model Y crossovers.
