Industry observers in China have released their estimates for the week of February 13-19, 2023.

It is estimated that Tesla China saw 5,913 insurance registrations during the week, which is when the electric car maker is still focused on exporting its cars.

Tesla Gigafactory Shanghai serves as the company's main vehicle export hub.

Tesla Gigafactory Shanghai serves as the company's main vehicle export hub.

Thus, Tesla China typically focuses its resources on exports for the first half of the quarter before shifting to the domestic market in the second half.

With that in mind, and based on recent drone overflights at the port of Shanghai, it appears that Tesla China is still mostly focused on exports during February 13-19.

However, the number of domestic vehicle registrations for Tesla China saw a decrease last week.

For context, the company saw 6,963 insurance registrations for the domestic market in the week of February 6-12, 2023.

Based on estimates by industry observers in China, a total of 4,334 Model Y and a total of 1,579 Model 3s were registered from February 13th to 19th.

Tesla China is busy this month.

Previous reports indicated that Model 3 production would pause at Giga Shanghai until the end of February as the electric automaker rolls out updates to its line of all-electric sedans.

These efforts are said to be being made to make room for a facelifted version of the Model 3 sedan in China.

Upgrades to the Model 3 line also appear to be classified, with some Giga Shanghai workers reportedly not allowed to work on production lines while the upgrades are being carried out.
