The Model Y achieved the top spot in China's luxury SUV sales for 2022.
Tesla China has been quietly making improvements to its Shanghai-made Model Y Giga.
For about two months, the Model Y units produced in Giga Shanghai have been fitted with an upgraded suspension system.
The Model Y's suspension has been improved, according to the company, in a post on the local Chinese social media platform Weibo.
This was achieved by improving the flex and damping components of the Model Y suspension.
With the improvements made, the Model Y's suspension will be able to reduce bump shock at low speeds and enable a more stable ride at higher speeds.
Model Y units produced in Giga Shanghai since January 1, 2023, are equipped with the new suspension system.
Tesla China has shared several posters on Weibo detailing the improvements implemented on the Y models produced at Giga Shanghai.
- A look at the rough translation of the Model Y decals shared by Tesla China shows that the suspension improvements to the all-electric crossover help in many areas.
- First, the spring stiffness of the Model Y suspension has been reduced by 2N/mm-5N/mm.
- This effectively reduces bumps and makes driving more comfortable.
- The Model Y's suspension vibration frequency has also been modified so that passengers such as children and the elderly don't feel nauseous in the car.
- While there are more affordable competitors on the market, the Tesla Model Y has been doing quite well in the domestic Chinese market.
- According to the list published by the China Passenger Car Association on January 11, the Model Y achieved the top spot in China's 2022 luxury SUV sales with 315,314 copies sold.
- With recent improvements, the Model Y is likely to become more popular with consumers in China.
