  • In February, Tesla sold about 25,526 Model Y cars.


  • Tesla was followed by BYD Tang DM, which sold 10,783 units.


  • The Tesla Model 3 was the third best-selling new electric vehicle (NEV) in China, with 8,397 units sold.


  • Tesla dominated sales of NEV clean cars for models priced between CNY200,000 (US$29,138.80) and CNY300,000 (US$437.08.20).


  • Tesla China sales in February 2023 revealed the gap between BYD's Tang DM and Model Y in the luxury car market.


  • Tang DM is a 5-seater compact battery electric vehicle.


  • Its cost ranges from 205,911 CNY (30,000 USD) to 274,548 CNY (40,000 USD).


  • BYD's monthly production capacity is 1,000 units for Tang DM.



The Model Y of the 5-seater Giga Shanghai currently starts at CNY 261,900 for the rear-wheel-drive version.


The long-range Model Y costs around CNY311,900 before options, and the Performance Model Y starts at CNY361,900.


Meanwhile, the Tesla Model 3 RWD costs CNY229,900 before options, and the Model 3 Performance starts at CNY329,900.


Between Model 3 and Model Y, Giga Shanghai can produce 20,000 units per week as of February 1, 2023.
