The Tesla Model 3 remains one of the best-selling electric cars in Australia, based on sales figures for February 2023.
Tesla sold nearly 2,671 Model 3 vehicles last month, driving electric car sales in Australia.
The Tesla Model 3 was the third highest-selling model of all cars sold in the country.
- The Ford Ranger was the best-selling vehicle last month with 4,473 units sold, followed by the Toyota Hilux with 3,939 models sold.
- The Tesla Model 3 also ranked third in Australia's top 10 models year-to-date 2023 list, with 5,598 vehicles sold.
- The Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) recently released Australian motor vehicle sales data for February 2023.
- In all, approximately 86,878 vehicles were delivered in February 2023, up 1.8% compared to the same period last year.
- “This is the best February result since 2019. It is particularly satisfactory given global and domestic supply constraints,” said Tony Weber, CEO of the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries.
- Of the 86,878 vehicles delivered in February 2023, 13.9% were zero-emission or low-emission vehicles including battery electric vehicles, hybrids, and plug-in hybrids.
- FCAI also noted an uptick in sales of battery electric vehicles in Australia last month.
- Battery electric vehicles accounted for 6.8% of low-emission vehicle sales with 5,932 copies sold in February.
- "Increasing sales of electric vehicles demonstrate that if there is a battery electric product that fits the driving habits, needs, and finances of Australian motorists, they will buy these vehicles," Weber added.
- The Driven reported that Tesla sold approximately 3,516 battery electric cars last month.
- Tesla sales in February 2023 account for 60% of the light electric vehicle market.
