A group of Volkswagen- including Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, and Scout - have announced their adoption of charging ports for Tesla's NACS.
Volkswagen was one of only two major automakers to buck the trend, and now that VW has succumbed to the pressure, only Stellantis remains.
Volkswagen Group announces the adoption of the Tesla NACS charger
- From 2024 onwards, future Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche and Scout vehicles sold in the US will feature a NACS charging port, giving owners access to more than 20,000 Tesla Superchargers in North America.
- This will be in addition to the more than 3,800 DC fast charging ports currently within Electrify America and Electrify Canada, expanding options for future electric vehicle owners.
- Existing VW Group EVs in the US, such as the Volkswagen ID.4 and Porsche Taycan, equipped with a CCS charging port, will also be allowed access to NACS-equipped superchargers.
- According to the company, the mentioned brands are exploring the use of adapters, although no concrete solution has been rolled out yet.
- With VW Group subsidiary Electrify America confirming the addition of NACS plugs to its CCS charging stations in July, the Volkswagen Group's announcement comes as no surprise.
- However, it finally answers one of the questions about the upcoming Scout brand.
