2024 Volkswagen ID.3 Facelift gets minor updates inside and out

Volkswagen goes so far as to call it the second generation.

Two and a half years after the launch of the Volkswagen ID.3, the automaker has unveiled the facelifted variant of the model that inaugurated the ID family of electric vehicles.

While it may not look like it on the outside and inside, Volkswagen claims the 2024 ID.3 has received an extensive upgrade, even going so far as to call it the second generation, which includes the latest software with new comfort and assistance systems.

Changes in the design of the Volkswagen ID.3 2024

The design changes are subtle, but give the facelifted ID 3 a more striking appearance. The most obvious exterior change is a more aggressive front bumper with larger air-cooling vents.

Other changes include new light signatures for the LED headlights and taillight clusters (the taillight portions in the trunk lid are now illuminated), aero-enhanced alloy wheels, a black roof with matte silver trim, and new colors such as Dark Olive Green iridescent metallic paint.

Moreover, due to the removal of the black strip at the bottom of the windshield, the front hood of the compact electric hatchback appears longer, as do the recessed sections on the sides.

Moving on to the interior, it appears to be very similar to the one in the current model, but Volkswagen claims it has implemented many customer suggestions. The tactile experience has been improved, for example, thanks to improved quality of materials, including soft foam-backed surfaces in the cockpit.

The door panels have been redesigned with smoother, larger surfaces, as well as more generous armrests. The ID.3's interior is now completely animal-free, with a high proportion of recycled materials, consisting of the Artvelours Eco microfiber material used in the door trim and door trims. The seats, for example, are made from 71 percent recycled plastic waste.

New technologies in the Volkswagen ID.3 2024

The 2024 VWID.3 has two independent screens, as before, a 5.3-inch integrated driver display that is controlled via touch controls on the multifunction steering wheel and a larger 12-inch touchscreen that controls the navigation, phone functions, and media, systems Help, and vehicle settings.

The infotainment system's menu structure has been changed, with a clearer and more informative cargo list now located at the top level of the home screen.

The intelligent electric vehicle route planner has been updated and improved in the connectivity section, for example, on long trips, it schedules charging stops to get to the destination as quickly as possible, taking into account current traffic information and forecasts as well as the battery charge level.

The electronic architecture of the Volkswagen ID.3 models is new. Two high-performance computers known as ICAS (In-Vehicle Application Servers) are the core components. These computers perform a variety of tasks that can be divided into a large number of small computers, yet However, the vehicle's primary functions continue to be handled by separate control units.

The use of squadron data in Travel Assist has been updated, and Park Assist Plus with memory function enables automatic recovery and the use of saved parking maneuvers.

2024 Volkswagen ID.3 Engine & Battery

The same electric motor, battery options, and range ratings are used.

The refined ID.3 engine continues the same rear-mounted electric drive motor with 150 kW (201 hp) and 310 Nm (228 lb-ft) of torque, WLTP range ratings remain for the 58 kWh and 77 kWh battery packs. The watch is the same.

The ID.3 Pro S has a larger range of 546 km (339 miles), while the smaller ID.3 Pro has a range of 426 km (264 miles). Volkswagen said a smaller battery is in the works in the future but did not provide further details.

The ID.3 Pro S's 77 kWh battery can be charged from 5 to 80 percent in 30 minutes at up to 170 kW at a DC fast charging station, the same charge cycle at 120 kW takes 35 minutes for the 58-pack kWh in ID.3 Pro.

Volkswagen has not specified when the facelifted ID.3 will be available to European customers, but previous reports indicate that it will be in the fourth quarter of 2023.
