Production begins in the second quarter of the year
The giant US electric car maker revealed its intention to build a new huge factory in the Chinese city of Shanghai to produce electricity storage units known as "Mega Pack", which are giant batteries that store energy and help ensure the stability of electricity grid supplies and prevent power outages.
For its part, the official Xinhua News Agency said that construction work on the new factory is expected to start in the third quarter of this year, and production will start in the second quarter of next year.
Tesla indicated in a message via the social networking site Twitter that the initial production capacity of the new factory will be 10,000 megapacks annually.
Tesla currently owns a similar factory in the US state of California, with a production capacity of 10,000 mega bags annually as well.
