Uber is increasingly investing in the electrification of the vehicles used by its drivers.

  • Shortly after, Hertz announced that in addition to adding Tesla cars to its rental fleet, the company also struck a deal with Uber to give its drivers access to Tesla cars.

  • Fifty thousand Tesla cars were made available for rent to Uber drivers.

  • Uber has also purchased some vehicles directly from Tesla.

A new partnership between Tesla and Uber

Recently, news has surfaced regarding a new collaboration between Tesla and Uber, whereby Tesla will be selling its vehicles directly to drivers via the ride-sharing platform.

Uber has its own “vehicle marketplace” with deals for drivers to get new or used cars.

Tesla has been added as a “partner” on the platform, offering discounts on the Model 3 and Model Y of up to $3,000.

Both Tesla and Uber appear to be contributing to these discounts as they do for stock vehicles that will be delivered by December 2023, which is good for Tesla.

The automaker is trying to deliver as many vehicles as possible as part of its year-end drive to deliver a record number of vehicles and meet its guidance of 1.8 million vehicles in 2023.

On the other hand, there is a requirement to complete 100 trips by February, which is in Uber's interest.

There was no such condition in previous similar deals, as with the Bolt electric car last year.
