Obama has held the title of the most followed person on Twitter for several years in a row.

Musk is one of the most viral users on Twitter today, if not the most, and maintains a prominent presence on the platform with a steady stream of his tweets about a variety of topics and ideas.

Musk's follower count has been growing steadily, though his acquisition of Twitter last year has likely accelerated the CEO's number of followers among regular users.

The Tesla CEO reached 100 million followers last June, and his number of followers has increased exponentially since then.

This culminated this month when the gap between Musk's and Obama's follower numbers fell to less than a million.

At the time, it seemed inevitable that the CEO would catch up and overtake the former US president.

Sure enough, Musk surpassed Obama's number of followers on Twitter at the end of the month.

Musk and the former US president's use of Twitter differ greatly.

CEOs tend to use the platform for a wide variety of activities, from communicating with their customers and followers to informal comments on multiple topics, including politics.

On the other hand, former US President Barack Obama tends to use Twitter in a more formal way, posting ads and political posts more frequently.

The number of accounts Musk and Obama follow is markedly different.

Although Musk has more than 133 million followers, Musk only follows 187 accounts on Twitter, while Obama follows 562,653 accounts.

Both the CEO and the former US President receive a large number of responses for each post.
